How We Approach Film Coverage
Doubt takes its name from a film, and we hope it reflects the way we work. A healthy amount of doubt is useful when you cover movies. Release dates move, trailers get recut, and early buzz does not always survive opening weekend. So we treat every announcement as a starting point rather than the final word. Where we can, we check it against studio and distributor information before passing it on.
Why Los Angeles and New York
The two cities anchor much of American theatrical life. Los Angeles is where most studio decisions are made, and where premieres, guild screenings and awards-season campaigns tend to cluster. New York has a dense network of repertory houses, independent cinemas and festival programming. Many specialty and international titles open there first, often in limited release, before going wider. Following both cities gives us a clearer picture of how a film reaches audiences, from the first teaser to a nationwide run.
What you will find here
- Trailers with context: what the footage suggests about tone, who is involved, and how it fits the film's release plans. Browse them on our trailers page.
- Release tracking for titles heading to theaters. We note when a date is tentative or has already shifted. See Upcoming for the current slate.
- Theater coverage on the kinds of screens and venues worth seeking out, from large-format auditoriums to neighborhood art houses.
- Guides that explain release windows, limited versus wide openings, and how to plan a trip to the movies.
A note on listings and tickets
We are an independent editorial site. We are not a studio, a theater chain or a ticket seller. Showtimes and availability change often, so always confirm details with the cinema or its official ticketing partner before you head out. Booking ahead for opening weekends and special-format screenings is usually wise.
If you spot an error or think we have missed a film worth covering, we want to hear about it. Corrections and tips help keep the coverage honest, and that is the kind of doubt we aim to practice.
